"BLANK PLACARD DANCE"
Saturday, May 16th Mission District, San Francisco
Originally performed in the 1970s by legendary dancer Anna Halprin and the San Francisco Dancer’s Workshop, the Blank Placard Dance returns to The City. This modern reenactment will wind its way through the Mission District on May 16th, with Anna Halprin - soon to be 95 years old - participating in the event.
This community performance is intended to provoke audience participation and active involvement in the issues that matter on a personal and collective level. The event will be an intergenerational opportunity for community expression through the arts.
Pedestrians and audience members will be invited to answer a simple question: What matters to you? The dancers and musicians will collect from the audience what they would like to see on the blank placards. The event will culminate with the creation of a mural.
Presented by Tamalpa Institute in celebration of Anna Halprin’s 95th year. Visit DancesForAnna.org
Directed by Rosario Sammartino in collaboration with artists Jahan Khalighi and Dohee Lee.
